The story behind the work

Music Video Production in San Diego

Give your music a world of its own.

You spent months writing the song. Maybe years. You recorded it, mixed it, mastered it, and listened to it roughly a thousand times.

Now it's time to give people something to look at.

I Don't Know Studios is a San Diego music video production company creating cinematic music videos, performance films, and artist-driven visual content for musicians, bands, record labels, and independent artists.

We believe a great music video should do more than show the artist performing a song. It should expand the music, create an atmosphere, and give your audience another reason to hit replay.

Sometimes that's a beautifully lit performance in a carefully chosen location. Sometimes it's a full narrative with actors, characters, and a story that unfolds alongside the music.

Sometimes it's something wonderfully weird.

We're good with all three.

What We Make

Every artist has a different sound. Every music video should have a different personality.

Our music video production services include:

  • Cinematic music videos: Visually ambitious productions built around your song, style, and artistic identity.
  • Narrative music videos: Story-driven films that combine music with characters, scripted scenes, and emotional storytelling.
  • Performance videos: Professionally filmed performances featuring creative lighting, intentional camera movement, and distinctive locations.
  • Live session films: Intimate performances and stripped-down sessions that put the music and musicians front and center.
  • Worship music videos: Cinematic performance and storytelling content for worship artists, churches, and ministries.
  • Promotional content: Teasers, vertical clips, behind-the-scenes edits, and social media videos to support your music release.

Our experience includes music videos, worship productions, and performance films for independent artists and creative organizations.

We're not interested in making every artist look the same. We want to understand what makes your music yours, then build visuals that belong to that sound.

Your Song. Our Cameras. A Little Movie Magic.

Good music video production starts long before someone yells "action."

We listen to the track, talk about your influences, explore visual references, and build a concept that works with both your artistic direction and your budget.

From there, we can coordinate scripting, storyboards, location scouting, production scheduling, crew, cinema cameras, lighting, playback, cinematography, and creative direction.

After filming, we handle the edit, performance synchronization, color grading, visual treatments, and sound design where appropriate.

Need short vertical edits for Instagram Reels, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts? We can plan those into the production as well.

We're filmmakers, but we're also collaborators. If you've had a wild idea for a video living in your head for years, we want to hear it.

And if you have absolutely no idea what the video should look like, that's okay too.

Our studio is literally called I Don't Know.

How It Works

  1. We listen. Send us the track. We talk about your vision, influences, audience, release plans, and budget.
  2. We dream it up. We develop a concept, visual references, treatment, locations, and production plan around your music.
  3. We shoot the video. Our crew brings the cameras, lights, creative direction, and technical know-how to capture the performances and scenes.
  4. We make it sing. We edit the footage to the music, refine the visual rhythm, color grade the images, and complete the finishing work.
  5. We get it release-ready. We deliver the final music video and any agreed-upon promotional edits formatted for YouTube, social media, and other distribution platforms.

Timeline & Investment

For straightforward music video projects, we aim to deliver the finished video within two weeks or less after filming, provided feedback and approvals remain on schedule.

More ambitious concepts involving casting, complex locations, multiple shooting days, visual effects, or extensive post-production may require additional time.

Our music video productions generally start at $5,000, with larger projects ranging to approximately $20,000 or more depending on filming, editing, scheduling, crew, locations, and travel.

We'll help develop a concept that serves your music without adding unnecessary production expenses.

You've Got the Song. Let's Make the Movie.

Whether you're releasing your first single or your tenth album, your music deserves visuals that feel as intentional as the work you put into creating it.

Send us the track. We'll bring the cameras.

Before we roll

A few good questions.

How much does it cost?

What’s your budget? We’ll work with you to find a price that works and doesn’t break the bank. We operate with a small crew, not a big intrusive production company. Shoot us a message about your project, and we’ll send you a free quote.

How long does it take?

Not as fast as Nicolas Cage in ‘Gone in 60 Seconds,’ but pretty fast. We usually turn around the first video concept within two weeks after filming it.

Do you write the concept?

If only we could read and write. In all seriousness, we work with you to find what makes your story stand out and shine a light on it. We’ll draft a concept and submit a free proposal with our ideas.

Do I get vertical versions for Instagram and TikTok?

Is your TV vertical at home? Do you watch sunsets through a door frame? Just kidding, we’ll talk about it.

Who owns the final video?

Didn’t you pay for it? You own it, we’d love to show it off, though.

Do you work outside San Diego?

Do birds migrate in the winter? Of course we do… We’ve done projects in San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Rosa, Chicago, Arizona, Texas, Montana, just to name a few…

READY TO ROCK?Tell us about your song and we'll build a film around it
