The story behind the work
Restaurant Video Production & Food Videography in San Diego
Every plate deserves cinema.
You've spent years perfecting the food. We're here to make people hungry just looking at it.
I Don't Know Studios creates cinematic restaurant video production, food videography, and hospitality video content for restaurants, chefs, catering companies, hotels, and hospitality brands throughout San Diego and Southern California.
We love a good close-up of a perfectly seared steak. But great culinary filmmaking is about more than pretty food. It's about the hands that prepare it, the people who serve it, the atmosphere surrounding it, and the experience waiting on the other side of the reservation.
We don't just film what's on the plate. We capture everything that makes someone want to pull up a chair.
What We Make
From neighborhood favorites to upscale dining concepts, we create video content that brings the entire hospitality experience to life.
Our culinary production services include:
- Restaurant commercials: Cinematic advertisements that showcase the food, atmosphere, and personality of your restaurant.
- Food videography: Beautifully lit close-ups of preparation, plating, ingredients, textures, and finished dishes.
- Restaurant brand films: Stories about the chefs, owners, teams, and ideas behind the menu.
- Hospitality videos: Promotional films for hotels, resorts, event venues, and guest experiences.
- Social media content: Short-form food videos, Instagram Reels, TikToks, and digital ads.
- Menu and launch campaigns: Content for new restaurants, seasonal menus, special events, and brand announcements.
We've worked with restaurants and hospitality brands including Trust Restaurant Group, Woodstock Pizza, Gather Catering, and others. From the energy of a busy kitchen to the quiet details of fine dining, we know how to make food look as good as it tastes.
And yes, we generally leave hungry.
From Prep to Post
Great food videography takes more than pointing a camera at dinner.
We plan the lighting, camera movement, shot sequences, and food presentation to bring out the colors, textures, and details that make a dish irresistible.
Our productions can include creative development, shot lists, scheduling, professional crew, cinema cameras, lighting, location audio, interviews, editing, color grading, sound design, and social media cutdowns.
We coordinate with your chef, management, and staff to work around preparation and service whenever practical. The idea is to capture the experience without unnecessarily disrupting the people making it happen.
And when we're filming, we're looking beyond the hero dish. Those little moments, the flame hitting a pan, a bartender pouring a cocktail, the final garnish, are often what make the finished film come alive.
How It Works
- We get to know your place. We learn about your restaurant, your guests, your menu, and what makes the experience unique.
- We plan the shoot. Together, we choose the dishes, spaces, people, and moments worth featuring. Then we build the schedule and shot list.
- We roll cameras. Our crew captures the food, atmosphere, preparation, and personality of your business with cinematic lighting and camera work.
- We cook in post. We edit the footage, refine the color, build the sound, and bring the entire experience together.
- We serve it up. We deliver your finished film and any agreed-upon promotional edits for your website, social media, or advertising campaigns.
Timeline & Investment
Most straightforward restaurant video projects can be completed in two weeks or less after filming, depending on the number of deliverables and the approval schedule. Larger hospitality campaigns or productions involving multiple locations may require additional time.
Our restaurant video production projects generally start at $5,000 and can range to approximately $20,000 or more for larger campaigns involving additional filming, editing, travel, or scheduling requirements.
We'll help you put together a production that makes sense for your restaurant and your goals.
